As a species we are particularly wasteful and destructive. It is impossible to think of another animal on this planet that tears raw elements so randomly from the very earth on which it lives, then after an often pollutive process to further utilise the materials, discards them. Old buildings and bridges stand forlornly collapsing, roads and rail lines lead nowhere. And to add a further insult, structures are scrawled upon in some final epitaph: We were here! But what have we left?
