Much of the rail system in South Africa is in a dilapidated state. In a country as vast as this one would have thought that this mode of transport over vast empty spaces would have provided a modern transport solution.
Sidings and junctions stand idle, structures neglected, vandalised for their materials, whilst others have occasionally been adapted for
other uses.
Some tracks amble on into the wilderness, others still handle reduced traffic, mostly not stopping at stations expectantly awaiting their arrival. They will in all reality have to be patient for a long time to come.
